The island of Anglesey, off the coast of North Wales, must be rounded by coastal shipping making the passage up or down the western seaboard, and as a consequence of its position in a busy seaway has several major lights. Skerries was built first, followed a century later by South Stack and Point Lynas, the latter after the wreck of the "Rothesay Castle" on Puffin Island at the entrance to the Menai Strait in 1830.

Kinnaird Head Lighthouse

Kinnaird Head Lighthouse is one of over 200 located around Scotland's wild coastline. The light is owned by Historic Scotland and operated by The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses. A modern light is still operated by The Northern Lighthouse Board on the site.
Kinnaird Head has a very important position in Scottish history as the first Northern Lighthouse Board light. The light was established at Kinnaird Head in December 1787 by Thomas Smith, Engineer to The Northern Lighthouse Board and the father-in-law of Robert Stevenson (the grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson). Kinnaird Head is also the only lighthouse in Scotland to reuse an existing building, the site was originally a 15th century castle.

Sam Wanamaker, an American actor living in London, dreamed of a fitting memorial to Shakespeare. The heart of his dream was to rebuild a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre in Southwark, close to the site of the original Elizabethan building. Sam's dream encompassed three key parts:
" A Theatre Company, who would perform plays in a theatre which is as close as possible to the space Shakespeare worked in;
" An Education Department, working with children and scholars, to advance the understanding and enjoyment of Shakespeare's work;
" An Exhibition, where visitors can discover more of Shakespeare's world and work.
